"I guess some people take living in The Tropics pretty much for granted; but for us it has been an incredible culture shock. Coming from New South Wales (Central Western Slopes and Plains initially, and then Sydney and the Blue Mountains) and with a stint in Brisbane... up to The Tropic of Capricorn, has meant many changes for us. We are getting used to high temperatures, cane toads, wearing the same clothes all year round, knowing when to go outside and when to stay in out of the sun, being able to visit the beach, watching beautiful sunsets and sunrises right from our bedroom window and to being inspired by rocky volcanic outcrops (an extinct volcano looms right in front of our house). Oh... and a visit from a typan on one occasion, but he had the good manners not to stay for very long. We are able to live in a rural area (my office looks out onto a huge farm and I sometimes get visits at our back fence from the locals - horses and Brahman cattle) and yet we are close to one of the most dynamic regional cities in Australia with every facility you could ever need. Paradise? You bet, and the flora and fauna (kangaroos right in our backyard) are simply superb.
I had never even seen some of the plants when I first came up here. This little beauty is a tropical hibiscus in a variegated peachy colour and comes from my own garden!
I love this card because it is so versatile. I can think of oodles of occasions for which it could be used and it is also suitable to simply send someone note or to catch up. Why just use a boring old notepad or an impersonal email when you can brighten up someone's day like this?" L P King.
