Upon my birth, I had been blessed

for I heard your cherished voice,

and regardless of the world’s critiques,

I am grateful for your choice.

While others strived for fame and wealth,

you chose to give me words,

and by your sweet embraces,

I knew that each was heard.

While others climbed their ladders,

we took the smallest steps.

It was you who chose to soothe me

when I fell and hurt and wept.

While others bragged of great success,

you chose to take my hand,

and carry me through childhood

until I learned to stand.

Everything I’ll ever need,

I learned it all from you.

Because you chose to give your time,

your love and patience, too.

And ‘cause you chose to guide my ways

and give me oh, so much:

Every person I shall meet

will feel your precious touch.
